A proper walk in the jungle

The jungle does its best work early. By 6:40 am you'll have crossed the Rapti by dugout canoe Or suspention beifge, slipped into the buffer zone, and your eyes will have adjusted to the green. Four hours, easy pace, two licensed guides — one in front, one behind, the way it should be. You'll likely spot deer, monkeys, dozens of birds, and on a good morning a rhino bathing or a sloth bear ambling off. Not promised, never promised. But often.

It's our most-booked tour for a reason. Small group, fixed price, no faffing, back at the lodge for breakfast.

Highlights

  • Track rhino, sloth bear, deer and crocs with a licensed naturalist
  • Cross the Rapti by dugout canoe at dawn (or mid-afternoon)
  • Hard cap at 10 walkers — usually 4–6
  • Two guides, always. Wildlife first, photos second.

    Itinerary

  • Trek from Dovan toward Deurali and continue ascending to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m). This is the highlight of the trek, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. Enjoy panoramic mountain views, photography opportunities, and breathtaking sunrise or sunset scenery.

  • Begin descending from base camp toward Bamboo Village, retracing the trail through mountain valleys and forest zones while enjoying different perspectives of the Himalayan landscape.

  • Trek toward Jhinu Danda, famous for its natural hot spring pools located near the Modi River. This is a great recovery stop where trekkers can relax and experience local mountain wellness traditions.

Good to Know

What to bring

Long trousers, closed shoes (trainers fine), a hat, a refillable bottle. We've got binoculars to lend.

Fitness

If you can manage a three-hour coastal walk back home, you can manage this. The terrain is mostly flat. No scrambles.

Our ethics

We don't ride elephants. Never have. We keep proper distance from animals, we don't bait sightings, and we follow park rules to the letter. Wildlife first.

Weather call

Heavy rain and we postpone, no charge. Light rain and we go, the jungle is brilliant in light rain.

Cancellation

Free up to 24 hours before. After that we'll do our best to move you to another day.

Best season

Oct–Mar for clearest sightings and cool mornings. Apr–Sep is greener, fewer people, and you'll likely have the trail to yourselves.

    FAQ

  • Honestly, no. Wild animals do as they please. We see them on most walks — but if you book a tour expecting a guarantee, no operator can give you one in good faith.
  • licensed guides, strict park rules, sensible distances. We've been doing this for years without incident. We'll cover all the rules in the brief.
  • Can I come if I'm travelling solo? Most welcome. You'll join the group and there's no single supplement. Plenty of solo travellers do this one. 8 and up, generally. Anyone younger, message us — we can sometimes arrange a private slow walk instead.
  • Sunset Canoe on the Rapti — same evening, same guide, +£8. Tharu Village Cultural Walk the following afternoon — a slower, gentler counterweight.
